Serviceberry Farm is a vegetable, cut flower and herb farm nestled in bucolic Cromwell Valley Park in Baltimore County, Maryland. Our journey began in 1998 as TALMAR, Inc., when founder, Catherine Murphy, decided to move her horticultural therapy programs from greenhouses to a serene farm setting. As we look towards the future, we are excited to rebrand in 2026 to better align with our mission and the wonderful community we have the privilege to serve. Our story is one of dedication, growth, and the unwavering commitment to providing wholesome, organic vegetables to all.

Kate Joyce MBA
Kate was introduced to sustainable agriculture as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali then spent ten years working in the Bon Secours and Sheppard Pratt health systems as well as several Baltimore-area urban farm initiatives. Kate believes in regenerative agriculture and collaborative leadership. She insists The Farm grow ground cherries and fish peppers and finds great joy in riding the zero-turn mower.

Jess Fedo
Jess has a Masters in School Counseling, but finds farmland much more conducive to a serene life than an office. She uses a curriculum designed for The Farm by a Horticultural Therapist, a refined by an occupational therapist, plus her own background, to ensure participants are supported in working towards their personal goals. Jess coordinates supported volunteer opportunities and provides vocational training for folks eligible through DORS. Jess is responsible for the design and wonder of The Farm's Sensory Garden

Vanessa Lubiner
Vanessa oversees vocational training programs for people with disabilities at The Farm, and is the day to day instructor of VAFARMS, a compensated work therapy program for veterans with disabilities. Vanessa is instrumental in Serviceberry's apiary and bee-related activities, growing and using bi-colored sorghum for handmade brooms, and walks through the meadow identifying spring ephemrals.

Stephen was born and raised in Baltimore City, but has been a farmer since before he could walk. He is the strong and silent guy in overalls working through his daily chores practically under the radar.
